Calling Me

The stones cry out saying, “Come. Come.”

Clouds and mist meet earthen fields of green calling, “Come. Come.”

Water whispers, “I will wash you clean. Come. Please come.”

The fire in my belly stirs and answers, “Yes.”

the world in your hands

Several weeks ago while creating this collage, I noticed some words on the scraps of paper from where I had cut my images. They were intriguing to me, so I tucked them away for a later time. While I was preparing to cut up more scraps and images in response to my meditation on a healthy body, I ran across the partial poem and decided it was time to find the rest. I offer it here. Enjoy!

Settle for nothing
less than the

object of your desire.

Desire. The weight of. The weight of our

desire. Then laugh, cry, but laugh

more than you cry, and when you hold

the world in your hands, love Her.

"above all remember that the meaning of life is to build life as if it were a work of art. you're not a machine...start working on this great work of art called your own existence."

the journey

The Journey

One day you finally knew
what you had to do, and began,
though the voices around you
kept shouting
their bad advice --
though the whole house
began to tremble
and you felt the old tug
at your ankles.
"Mend my life!"
each voice cried.
But you didn't stop.
You knew what you had to do,
though the wind pried
with its stiff fingers
at the very foundations,
though their melancholy
was terrible.
It was already late
enough, and a wild night,
and the road full of fallen
branches and stones.
But little by little,
as you left their voices behind,
the stars began to burn
through the sheets of clouds,
and there was a new voice
which you slowly
recognized as your own,
that kept you company
as you strode deeper and deeper
into the world,
determined to do
the only thing you could do --
determined to save
the only life you could save.

Above is a fun flickr meme that I've seen floating around the internet. I found it at Creative Everyday. I have been curious about the collage technique with photos and so decided to give it a creative try. It's great fun when you don't want to drag out all of the art supplies. Give it a try. Here's the idea behind the meme:

  • Type your answer to each of the questions below into Flickr search.
  • Using only the first page, choose an image.
  • Copy and paste each of the URL’s into the mosaic maker over at FD's image maker.

The questions:
What is your first name?
What is your favorite food?
What high school did you attend?
What is your favorite color?
Who is your celebrity crush?
Favorite drink?
Dream vacation?
Favorite dessert?
What do you want to be when you grow up?
What do you love most in life?
One word to describe you.
Your Flickr name

Be sure to let me know if you post your own!!!

woman of the golden fleece

this past weekend, tess posted an evocative poem by marge piercy along with commentary about the power of poetry.

the stanza featured here resonated with me deeply and then tess in her lovely british manner suggested, "wouldn’t that part of the poem make a fabulous collage??"

needless to say, the images did not leave me, so this morning i spent time i did not really have (c'est la vie) creating these images for my visual journal.

new life begins

As soon as one sees with one's own eyes the whole which one had hitherto only known in fragments and chaotically, a new life begins.

eclipse

Last night was a total lunar eclipse. I have the good fortune of living with a photographer who has all the equipment to capture a shot like this. We loved sitting on the deck in the cool crisp night watching this miracle unfold.

the artist's dream

This is the artist's dream: To receive the inspiration to create, To share that creation with others, And to be totally supported in the process.

So, all you artists out there...is this your dream? If not, what is your dream? Thoughts?

just like a woman

Today, "The Dream", posted a beautiful new painting along with the words of Bob Dylan's, Just Like a Woman. It was a reminder to me that I had used those same words a few weeks back in my visual journal. It seemed like the perfect bit of synchronicity to share it here today. Enjoy!

(p.s. if the image looks familiar, it's because i did show it here as a soul collage.)

sharing

Some days the most creative thing to do is to share another's work. I hope you enjoy this new painting by The Dream combined with words from Anam Cara by the late John O'Donohue.

I arise today
through the strength of heaven, light of sun,
Radiance of moon,
Splendor of fire,
Speed of lightning,
Swiftness of wind,
Depth of sea,
Stability of earth,
Firmness of rock.

"The Deer's Cry" (Trans. Kuno Meyer)
