friday fancy...on saturday (again)

scrolling through the week of entries i saw lots of fun things. i played a lot this week with techniques but mainly i was drawn to color particularly vivid colors like golds and reds. it was a week of ups and downs on the home front...snarly teenagers, returning to work, a traveling husband. so, it was a great respite to add a little creativity into each day.

my art class teacher said it sounded like i was using my creative time kind of like cocktail hour...sounds good to me. come to think of it, those golds and reds are reminiscent of a good chardonnay or merlot. hmmmm...

since i am posting my friday list on saturday (again), i have included the collage and sentiment shown here that i made last evening. the words came from a commenter at diamonds in the sky with lucy and they stayed with me for several days. the resulting work has been added to my visual journal and is a fabulous reminder to me of the essence of this week.

ER...this one's for you.

This is gorgeous and I love the quote. Just think, you'll be in the air sooooon!!! Creative time is largely relaxing and meditative for me - truly a sanity saver. I can't really liken it to cocktail time, for obvious reasons ... but you sure can!

You captured the rush w/bird and the silence with the peaceful palette. Nice collage - refreshing for you and for us readers! (Although I don't know how I could be much more mellow being on Maui time:)

I love this collage - it really sums up the Heschel quotation for me. The images are awesome (literally) and enduring.

I find myself captivated and inspired by Heschel at the moment. I spent 4 days this week reading and re-reading one paragraph! His writng energisies my thinking, which is amazing.

What's percolating with me? Well, this week it's felt like week old coffee grinds percolating :) I have an idea for an essay I want to write. Wrestling with the paper tigers of "I can't do this" and "What's the point? I'll just start it and abandon it halfway through, and so may as well not start". All those kinds of thoughts. Which are making me tired.

Anyway, feeling horribly fed up with being in my own head. Did finish reading my Artist's Way stuff for the week and - blip! Julia Cameron writes just the right words to encourage me along. The girl is good. She knows that my inner artist is about 3 years old and needs about 3856 pounds of affirmation and encouragement :)

So anyway, feeling encouraged and the urge to do a collage comes upon me so just popped in to get a bit of inspiration. I feel stultish (I know that word didn't exist before 3 seconds ago) and boxed in and fed up with my own limitations and wanted to feed off your collages for some ideas :)

sue--you go girl! this feels like you are definitely "in recovery" so the words "one step (day) at a time come to mind. glad to be of inspiration. i will have a new collage up shortly :-) if you still need a little stoking.

Lucy - once more you bring out such comments from your readers!! Sue, I heard on an NPR story last week that Shakespeare introduced 200 news words to the English language while he was alive, with John Milton weighing in at a mighty 600 new words - so who knows, 2008 Sue introduces "stultish" to the English language - love it:)

Heh, thanks, SS. I also use "blerty" a bit - I don't know where that one came from. It's when I'm feeling crap and upset and a bit stuck in my own head.

Lucy, my collage last night (which kept me up way too late, but who care? I'd rather be tired than not creating anything) had a tiger in it, and the words, "Paper tigers do paper roars" :) Haha. They do, but man, doens't mean it's not exhausting listening to that paper roaring, you know? Those voices of fear about moving forward into "recovery" - you're right, one day at a time, thanks for the reminder - are loud. They don't want me to move on from my comfort zone, even though it's boring as batshit.

ss--thanks for the tips from NPR.

sue--i would love to see your roaring tigers!!! tell them you're moving on out of that comfort zone and they can take it or leave it :-)
