whimsy & romance

There is definitely something romantic and whimsical stirring in my soul these days. Last week I created this image of pink and I have little idea where it came from or what it is trying to speak to me. Yesterday I was drawn to write a poem in Spanish principally because I liked the sound in my ear (more romantic methinks). And last night, I stumbled across a very cool blog called Cafe Writing. While there I decided to participate in the January Project to see where my creativity would go. I chose option #2 with the guidelines as follows:

Pick at least three of the following eight words, and write a paragraph, scene, flash-fic, essay, blog entry or poem using them. It’s fine to change tenses, or pluralize if you want to, but please bold the words you choose.

breathless, change, elusive, pensive, reflect, surge, tide, vibrant

As I read the list of words, a scene of romance and intrigue formed in my mind. The following paragraph is the result of this quickly captured image. Sappy? Perhaps. Predictable? Possibly. But who am I to squelch the romantic creative spirit when it comes knocking? ☺

I plan to spend a bit more time with my collage image and I invite you to stretch your own creativity and help me finish this story or at least let me know what direction you think it might take. Here goes:

Breathless following their brief exchange, the elusive woman turned her face once more toward the pensive stranger. Her image reflected in his vibrant blue eyes and her heart surged with a tide of emotion. She stood immobile, locked in the presence of his eyes until finally, she inhaled deeply and took the defining step, knowing her life would never be the same.

So..what stirs in you? Which way did she step? Toward the stranger or away from him? Why?

I hope you'll give it a try! And I highly recommend stopping by Cafe Writing for a visit and more creative writing prompts. Cheers!

OK, I'm taking that cafe writing challenge. LIke my usual blog, I write in relation to a picture, in this case, part of my Ginsburgh Slide collection project, the liberation of my family's slides. I'll post the link to the picture. Taken at Rio Del Mar Beach in Aptos CA in 1965.

My entry:
How often do we resist changethat we are powerless to stop? Three children aspire to create a sand castle during their beach vacation oblivious to the approaching tide which inevitably will send surges of water over their creation on the way to its high water mark. The sand castle will become smooth sand, but is it really a loss, a failure? Or, is the beach itself a triumph, home to a vibrant community of water, sand, currents and living residents? Looking back and reflecting I never felt sad to see the sand castle be overrun by the advancing water, I found the the beach's return to its former state comforting and reassuring.

I can't seem to link to the picture, so this is the link to my blog where the picture appears

don't know if this will work and I'm not sure I can edit comments.

This will also be my azure blog entry for today

Oh yes, Rebecca at Just a Thought writes at Cafe Writing, and I'm going to jump in there at some point. Check out Rebecca's Footprints in the Heart at http://rebeccarites.blogspot.com/2008/01/footprints-in-heart.html, which is lovely.
I love your pink whimsy. Looks kind of Southern Belle to me.
And as for the words - I got a strong flash of Burt Reynolds and Deborah Kerr rolling in the surf in From Here to Eternity!

tess--thanks for the referral. i will check it out. hmmm.. southern belle. i can see that but hadn't registered before.
love the from here to eternity image, but i'm pretty sure it was burt lancaster vs. reynolds :-) some how "smokey & the bandit" meets sand & surf don't mix for me!

Oh Lordy, you're right about poor Mr Lancaster. A different league altogether from Mr Reynolds!

You never related to Southern Belle? - shoot, Sis, that's a kissin' cousin to Princess, although I think SB is often resurrected for me AFTER a nice glass of wine while Princess is generally accompanied WITH a nice WHINE:)

Love the pink and you're definitely right about Danielle Steele, unfortunately I recognized the scenario at once.

SS--i didn't say i never related to SB...just not in that photo/card. i most certainly know her well and she is definitely related to princess. you have described them both quite well. my drawl definitely gets more pronounced with a sip or two of the vino.

I liked the "defining step" part of the scribble you just wrote. There's always something exciting about it, and I can especially relate to that because I experience new "defining" steps everyday!

Thanks for sharing! I look forward to reading more from you! Welcome to Cafe Writing!
